Five of us braved the freezing cold weather to meet at the Library and discuss Zeitoun by Dave Eggers. Everyone agreed that it was an amazing story and a compelling read.  If you haven’t read it yet, it is about Abdulrahman Zeitoun, a Syrian born immigrant living in New Orleans.  During Hurricane Katrina, Zeitoun decides to ride out the storm and keep an eye on his family business and property.  You witness firsthand the atrocities of the storm and the devastating loss of property and of humanity as well.  We were all outraged by what happened to Zeitoun in the aftermath of the storm.  Read it and see for yourself why this book made it on various lists of the best books of 2010.

Other books that our book club attendees noted were The Border Lords by T. Jefferson Parker and Half the Sky by Nicholas Kristof.
