Family and Pets: I have a six year old who is currently into spiders and nerf guns. It is good exposure therapy on both counts. I have a German Shepherd mix named Beezus, after the character in the Beverly Clearly “Ramona” books.
Hobbies and Interests: I love fabric and occasionally sew what I buy.
Cherie – Youth Services Librarian
Worked for BPL Since: January 2018
Educational Background: B.A. English Literature, B.S. Environmental Studies and Human Ecology (both from Regis University, Denver) MLS University of Illinois
Favorite Books: Where do I start? A few of my all time favorites are A Wrinkle in Time, Small Steps by Peg Kehret, Harry Potter series, A Night Divided by Jennifer Nielsen, and I must admit I love all things Snoopy…when I was a child my grandmother was the cleaning lady for our local hometown library and so the library and book obsession began. I think that’s why I feel so fortunate to be able to connect families with books and share so many of my favorites. I spend my nose in all kinds of books from the children’s, young adult, and adult collections and equally like fiction and non-fiction…and it’s part of why I love what I do! The list is always growing and changing and it’s such a good first world problem to have!
Favorite Authors: There are so many…it’s like being asked which child is my favorite! So here are a few: Nikki Grimes, Jacqueline Woodson, Holly Black, Alex Flinn, Marsha Arnold, Kwame Alexander, Cassandra Clare, Jan Brett and my list would not be complete without Dav Pilkey, either.
Family and Pets: I have 3 great kids and I’m sure you’ll hear all about them. They are my pride and joy. I love animals although currently we don’t have any pets.
Hobbies and Interests: Reading, going to the Zoo, going to baseball games (Go CARDS!) traveling and visiting bookstores and libraries wherever I go, singing (not just in the shower), learning, exploring technology and cooking.

Andrew – Circulation Clerk
Worked for BPL Since: August 2008
Educational Background: I’m a CBC graduate, and a History major at Maryville University. I’m a TA for a history course at the University, a test Proctor/Invigilator for the IELTS and TOEFL English tests and a volunteer conversation partner for ELS Language Services.
Favorite Books: Orwell’s Animal Farm, and Flowers For Algernon were both books that I could not put down, . Orson Scott Card’s Ender’s Game was like my own personal Catcher in the Rye (which, ironically, was a book I did not care for), something I read at a young age and really changed my perspective. Red Dwarf by Rob Grant and Doug Naylor was the first book I ever liked so much that I read it twice, though mostly because it was so hilarious.
Favorite Authors: Glen Cook is my favorite local author; his son was one of my best friends in high school. Douglas Adams, Arthur C. Clarke, and Orson Scott Card were some of my favorite authors growing up, but I primarily read a wide range of non-fiction these days, so I haven’t had many repeat authors. Anthony Everett’s Augustus may inspire me to read his other Roman biographies, so he’s definitely a potential addition to the list. I’m also a big fan of newspapers, The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal in particular, as well as the journals like Foreign Affairs.
Family and Pets: I come from a family who’s best exemplified by its two chief loves: books and dogs. We own three English Setters and more books than we know what to do with. A magnet sticker on the refrigerator reads, “A room without a book is like a body without a soul,” which I think is, in a way, emblematic of my family’s way of thinking. My father and I swap books on history, while my mother and sister do likewise with novels. The dogs, each one either crazy or neurotic in their own special way, are Daphne, Niles, and Truman.
Hobbies and Interests: I really enjoy helping foreign students learn to speak English and understand American culture and history, which is why I loved my volunteer spot at ELS so much.. I’ve also found I really enjoy helping patrons find books on general topics. “You liked [such-and-such book]? Oh, well you might like [such-and-such].” Helping people find what they might be interested in is always a fascinating puzzle. I also enjoy Zen meditation, science fiction & fantasy media, history, and philosophy (West & East).

Hobbies and Interests: I play and sing in a few bands and am so glad to be a part of the local music scene in Stl. There’s a great sense of community within that, and so much talent in this town that there’s really something to do/see/hear every night.
